Yulia Piller was born and raised in one of the republics of the former Soviet Union at the time when the educational standards in her home country were extremely high. She was one of only 3 students at her high school to graduate with 4.0 GPA and a gold medal for the excellence in education.Yulia came to the United States in 1995 with a desire to realize her American dream. Her vision was to develop an advanced educational system that would combine a variety of teaching styles and techniques relevant to the 21st century fluencies. As a strong supporter of introducing Arts and Technology Curriculum into every child’s education and a believer into the holistic approach to learning Yulia decided to start Arts and Technology Institute as a way to prepare the children for the future and give them necessary skills to survive in the global information age.
Yulia graduated from the University of North Texas with Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology. While still at school she was hired by JC Penney IT as a system analyst. Since Yulia was raised in the family of filmmakers, movies have always been her passion. In 2001 she started a small media production company that specialized in different types of video projects. Yulia went back to school and graduated in 2006 from Texas Woman’s University with MA in Teaching Computer Science and Applied Technology. She has been in the top 1% of all graduate students in the United States (Chancellor’s List) in 2005-2006. She is a state certified Computer Science 8-12 and Technology EC-12 educator.
For the last 6 years Yulia has been working for Frisco ISD teaching Video Production, Multimedia, Broadcasting and Computer Literacy classes. She has also facilitated several professional development workshops for the Frisco ISD teachers. Yulia wrote Video Production/Advanced Multimedia curriculum and created application tutorials many of which are still used by the teachers at the middle school level.
As an educator and a mother of 2 boys Yulia realizes that we live and teach at a time of paradigm shift. Our new generation of children who were born into the age of digital media learn differently and require new set of knowledge and skills relevant to the 21-st century. It is our responsibility and obligation to adjust our instructional methods and focus more on educating the mind as a whole. This is the main educational philosophy of Arts and Technology Institute. Yulia is currently working on her Ph. D in Arts and Technology from the University of Texas- Dallas. Her research is centered on Arts and Technology Education as holistic approach to learning. Yulia lives in Frisco with her husband Mark and two sons – Sam (9) and Ari (4).
